Young Searwaters Grow (without rats)

Fascinating, mysterious, elusive: the berta minore Puffinus yelkouan nests in late winter in a few islands of the Mediterranean, while it spends the period from August to October in the eastern sectors of the Mare nostrum, going as far as the Black Sea. The Tremiti Archipelago boasts the only Italian colony on the Adriatic, thanks to the nesting on the Island of San Domino, Capraia and San Nicola.

This year the first breeding season is underway in which, following the eradication of the rat, the disturbance in this very delicate phase of the biological cycle is attenuated so as to increase, as happened in other rat-free island contexts, their reproductive success.
