Ready, let’s go! The eradication of the black rat has begun.

In these days work has begun for the eradication of the rats from the Tremiti islands

The black rat poses a serious threat to the shearwater and shearwater populations nesting on the Islands and the removal of the rats will bring great benefits in terms of conservation of these species.

Not only that, also with regard to public health, agricultural activities and those related to tourism, the absence of rats will also translate into an economic and social value for the entire local population.

The eradication will take place with the installation of about 2000 dispensers containing rodenticide baits on the islands of San Domino, San Nicola and Capraia. The dispensers will be checked periodically and are designed to be completely safe for pets and non-target species.

Challenging weeks await us but we are confident that we will be able to carry out the operation, thus protecting the shearwaters that nest on these wonderful islands and improving the quality of life of the tremites.
